Overview of the Kühl Ramblr Shorts
I had the opportunity to try out…well, let’s be honest…to play in the KUHL Ramblr shorts. I chose them in teak color and have to say I was very impressed by these on multiple fronts. Anyone who knows me also knows that I am, for lack of better words, super aggressive on the apparel I wear. My wife often reminds me that I should be a quality control specialist on outdoor gear and clothing. Kuhl gave me that opportunity with the Ramblers and I am here to say these shorts outperformed in every field.
Material
The first thing I noticed right out of the package was that these shorts are super lightweight which always makes me immediately think that they won’t last very long. Then I felt the material and gave them a few stretch test pulls which had me reconsidering my previous thought. I could tell these shorts were different, but that could only be determined after wearing them out in the field, which I also immediately did. I slapped these bad boys on, grabbed my fishing rod and headed out to hit the trail down to a local lake.
Durability
Anyone who has had to hike through thick brush, scramble over rock, slip down the bank a few times while holding a fishing pole or a tackle box just to get to that honey hole on the other side of the lake knows that it is no easy feat. This pair of shorts cast away doubt further than any of my actual fishing casts this day as far ruggedness. I slipped on some sharp rocks within 5 minutes of my trek and thought for sure I had just torn a hole in these things. But I was very pleasantly surprised to find the rip stop fabric is very much so, ripstop. Just a little swipe and a slight pat took the dirt, lichen, and moisture right off. There wasn’t even the hint of a snag in the fabric to be seen. Unfortunately, the same thing can’t be said about the skin on my knee but that’s just part of the game. I did, however, find myself already thinking “I’m definitely getting a pair of these in pants”.

Features
The second thing that really caught my attention about these shorts was the multiple pockets with plentiful pocket space. With a total of 8 pockets altogether, I found myself running out of things to put in them. At one point I even considered trying to stuff the grip end of my pole down into one of the deep, back pockets but ultimately decided I would rather fish instead of spending the night in the emergency room. I comfortably carried my pocketknife, my dehooking pliers, an entire container of live worms, my wallet, phone, a bottle of water, and my Bluetooth headphones with plenty of space left over.

Comfort
The next thing I noticed was how comfortable these shorts are in the heat. It is currently very hot here in South Dakota. The heat paired with the terrain, which can be somewhat demanding in the canyons and hills so your attire is almost as important as carrying water. These shorts were actually very comfortable temperature wise. They ventilate and breathe, which means more comfortable trekking time. I have worn other brands of shorts that claimed similar features as these, and I can honestly say I still felt like I was wearing heavy canvas or cotton with how unbreathable they were. These felt more like boardshorts at the beach, minus the Tecate with a lime.
Final Thoughts
Overall, I would say I recommend the KUHL Ramblr shorts to anyone. Not only do they have a sharp look that you can wear out on the town casually, but they have a rugged build that stood up to my unintentional, destructive quality control measures. Whether cruising around the town on a summer night, hiking up to a peak, fishing at a local honey hole, or just laying around the house I’d say pick a pair of these up. You won’t be disappointed.
